Post subject: Migration from one hardware to another hardware - Windows 2000

My current Network is

Domain Name : - domain.com

Root Domain : - exch.domain.com

ADC : - newserver.domain.com ( old Server)

File Server : - newserver.domain.com ( old Server)


I would like to have you people comments, suggestion and help on this to
complete without any failure and black mark. please find the details above.


please provide me if you have betterway to complete this process and please
mention if i have missed out anything to considor here. It will be very help
ful for me if you give reply today itself.
Exchange server : - exch.domain.com

My migration project is:

rootdomain : newserver.domain.com (with new hardware)

ADC : exch.domain.com

File server : - newserver.domain.com ( with new hardware)

Exchange server : exch.domain.com

My Plan is :

1. Install new hardware with Os (windows 2000) and make it another ADC of
the network

2. Using FSMT transfer all file shares and data from rental server to new
server

3. Demote the old server and disconnect from the network.

4. Using Netdom command change the name of the new server to
newserver.domain.com

5. Transfer all the roles from hisexch.hiseuro.int to newserver.domain.com
and make the new server root DC for the Network.

6. Configure backup exec as per the client requirement


The above migration shd happen with minimal disturbance to the user.

Thank you for your reply. I have got few changes in my plan. cus i have made
few mistakes in my plan. pleae find my new plan below.


1. Demote the old server and make it as a member server and important
changing its name

2. Install new hardware with Os (windows 2000) and make it another ADC of
the network and name it as newserver

3. Using FSMT transfer all file shares and data from rental server to new
server

4. Transfer all the roles from hisexch.hiseuro.int to newserver.domain.com
and make the new server root DC for the Network

5.Also in Dns u got to delete all ur oldserver records

1. Windows 2000 wont support domain name change using netdom right????
