Post subject: backup DC

I am currently running W2K3 STD server (DC1) as my Primary DC. This server is my DNS and DHCP server. I would like to install a Backup DC (DC2) for this domain. I have installed W2K3 STD on another server and DCPROMO'd the box. It was successfully promoted and is now a qualified DC.

Do I install both DNS and DHCP on DC2 but just disable the services until it is needed if DC1 goes down? Do you install but not configure?

I know that either server in my current configuration can serve as authentication for the network, but if DC1 goes down I will not have an active DNS server or a DHCP server for new IP requests.

Thanks in advance.

hi,

purpose of installing DC2 i.e. BDC is to provide service in case DC1 i.e. pdc fails so i recomend to install sevices like DNS & DHCP only when ur client use dynamic ip address.
