WSUS Server will not sync

For whatever reason, my WSUS server will not sycronize. I just recently
re-installed it using a gateway that has no restrictions on it and this is
what I get...

WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server --->
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A connection attempt failed because the
connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or
established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond
at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream()
at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String
methodName, Object[] parameters)
at
Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSyncWebServices.ServerSync.ServerSyncProxy.GetAuthConfig()

If I change my gateway to go through our proxy server and set my proxy
settings in WSUS, I get something along these lines...

Error:

WebException: The remote server returned an error: (504) Gateway Timeout.

at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream()

I don't know what to do at this point. What is going on and why can I not
get this to work?????

First question: What version/build of WSUS are we talking about?

Second question: Did you recently upgrade this WSUS Server?
