Post subject: Userenv 1054 error on sbs2003 server
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>server>sbs (more info?)

I am getting this application event regularly in our SBS2003 SP1 Premium
(fully patched) server:

ID: 1054
Source: Userenv
Version: 5.2
Symbolic Name: EVENT_FAILED_DSNAME
Message: Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer
network. (An unexpected network error occurred). Group Policy processing
aborted.

While I have seen lots of information on the NET for this error on clients
this is happening every few minutes on the SBS server and I can't figure out
why. Client logs are clear and group policy seems to be working. Looking
back in the server logs it seems to have started when I added in the premium
technologies & ISA (can't say for sure though).

Note that the server and the clients still operate fine, the server just
logs this message that it can't find itself over and over...

I had this problem on an HP ML115 server running Windows 2003 SBS SP2.
The problem was solved by installing the latest AMD processor driver
