Post subject: User Migration - DFS caused failure?

Hi,
I'm in test mode of migrating users from a NT2000 domain to a NT2003 domain (different forests). Users are all roaming profiles with their My Documents, Desktop, and Application Data folders redirected. Their profiles and redirected folders are all stored on a DFSr replicated share in the destination domain. Profiles are set up in the user properties as \\newdomain.local\User\Profile\%USERNAME% and the redirects are referred to as \\newdomain.local\User\Redirect\%USERNAME%.

I'm running ADMT v3 in the destination domain DC. My testing is at the first user so I'm using the GUI unscripted. I'm checking the translate roaming profiles box. The test user's profile folder is owned by the newdomain.local\administrators and I'm running ADMT as the domain administrator.

The log indicates the NTUSER.DAT cannot be found. The folder it refers to \\newdomain.local\c$\DFSRoots\User\Profile\testuser doesn't exist. \\newdomain.local\User\Profile\testuser does though and is the correct location. The c$\DFSRoots path may be ok as it may be correct for the DFS infrastructure and maybe my problem lies elsewhere.

Here is the log:

Perhaps ADMT v3 isn't 2003 R2 DFS compatible?
TIA

Ok, I made a change to my test user's profile and used the hidden share instead of the DFS share; IE:
\\Server\User\Profile$\%USERNAME% instead of \\newdomain.local\User\Profile\%USERNAME%.

The migration worked without a hitch. So ADMT 3.0 is incompatible with DFSr replicated redirected user profiles.

After migration I'll have to change the user's profile location back to the DFS share.

Further testing has shown this problem does not affect DFSr replicated redirected folders (Application Data, My Documents, Desktop). These can be DFSr replicated and ADMT v3 will migrate those settings correctly (assuming the source/destination GPOs redirect to the same location). I did not test where the source & destination redirected to different locations (probably pushing your luck with that one).
