Post subject: Upgrading to active directory from windows 2000 to windows 2003
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>server>migration (more info?)

I've read through KB Article 325379 on upgrading active directory. Presently
My PDC is on a Windows 2000 server running Exchange Server 2000. I am
replacing several servers and upgrading them to Windows 2003, They are each
presently Windows 2000 and acting as BDC's. My questions is after upgrading
the Active Directory to Windows 2003 do I need to move my PDC to a Windows
2003 server or can it remain on the Exchange Server. I am not upgrading my
Exchange Server at this time.

You can leave your PDC as it is. Just extend Active directory. adprep /forestprep
adprep /domainprep
adprep /dominprep /gpprep

Just dont change the domain or forest functional level to windows 2003. And your all sweet.

Cheers,

Andrew
