SBS 2003 hangs "applying computer settings"

Hi
Our SBS 2003 system has just started this problem, when trying to log into
the console either on the server or from remote console, the console session
hangs at the "applying computer settings" screen. The shares seem to work OK
but VPN and the network printer do not. Forced re-boot of the server (power
button) and system still has the same problem.

Any ideas where to start looking please

Are you using an APC UPS with Powerchute software ???

FYI,
There is a serious issue with Powerchute V6, Java RE 1.3 and a MS Update
combination.

I've had a few 2k3 servers in serious trouble with this, update to the
latest APC software (which includes JRE 1.4.2.) seems to fix it.

Some servers get stuck at Applying Settings screen, others leak memory
until DNS or something else fails.
