Post subject: SBS 2003 Synchronisation on Log Off "Unable to make filename.ext available offline"
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>server>sbs (more info?)

Hi,

I'm running a network with SBS2003 and 5 XP Pro SP2 workstations, and
one Win2000 Pro (SP4?) workstation. I have two problems I would like to
solve.

1. After connecting the workstations to the network, first configuring
SBS2003 and then using the //servername/connectcomputer to finish the
task, some of the workstations have a list of users displayed in All
Programs. If you select one of the usernames in All Programs you get
two submenus Desktop and Username Documents (which has a submenu My
Pictures). All the submenus are empty.

What steps should I take to remove these folders from each workstation?

2. When all the workstations attempt to synchronise on log off, a list
of files (matching the MS exculsion list) is displayed with the
message;

"Unable to make filename.ext available offline" etc.

And then the log off waits for "Ok" to be pressed before continuing.
This is a pain when shutting down or restarting a workstation.

The interesting thing here is the files all belong to one user but when
other users try and log off and hence synchronise they see these files
listed too in their synchronisation failed message. What I would like
to do is remove this users files from everyone elses list, and also
prevent the failed synchronisation from stopping a log off, restart or
shutdown.

Any advice greatfully received.

Hey Jenny,

Wow!!! Thats a thorough reply! I have to make a site visit to implement
your suggestions before I can say they worked but thank you so much for
your time and efforts.

Regards,

Dave
