I'm running server 2003 and there are no com ports in the list of ports in
Routing and Remote Access. are com ports not supported? do i have to add
them somehow manually? the parallel port is there and works fine but i
assumes that since xp supports direct connect over com ports that server
2003 would too. thanks for any help

You have to add the null modem driver (from Phone and Modem options)
before you can see the port in the RRAS console.
