Greetings

I am planning to migrate an old Windows 2000 Server Print Server to
Windows Server 2003 Std. I do not plan on giving this server the same
name.

I have run the migrator on the 2000 box and am preparing the 2003 box
as we speak. Do I need to already have the role as a print server
setup on the 2003 box before running the import of the cab file from
the 2000 box?

Also, to make this transparent to the end users, i'm going to put a
pointer in DNS to point the old 2000 box name to the new 2003 box.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this plan?

Thanks
Charlie

Hank

Thanks for the response... when I say Role, i mean how you can add
roles by going to Admin tools, Manage my server...

No, I do not plan on keeping the server name the same as this server
will be doing more than just hosting printers, and the current server
name has the word print in it Smile

When I imported the backup PMig file, nothing showed up in the Printers
Screen that's why I was wondering if it had to have the role of Print
Server

Thanks,
Charlie
