On 7/26 I posted:

Ok. I got rough. I disconnected the (non-R2) server from the lan. I
shutdown the computer browser service on any machine that showed up as
a Master or Backup Browser in the (non-R2) group. Most workstations
(W2K pro and WinXP pro) have jumped to the other group.
If I leave all these Computer Browser services off, those machines
still in the (non-R2) group report that "browsing is not active on the
domain" when I issue BROWSTAT STATUS from their console and some things
do not function anymore, so I cannot leave it that way. I now have 13
machines in this (non-R2) group. This group now consists of:
2 Windows Server 2000 SE SP1 (non-DC)
1 Windows Server 2003 EE SP1 (non-DC)
2 Windows Server 2003 SE SP1 (non-DC)
1 Windows Server 2003 R2 SE SP1 (non-DC)
4 Windows 2000 Pro SP4
1 Windows NT4 Workstation SP6a
The non-R2 DC is still disconnected.
