Post subject: Making my Win 2003 Server a DC on an established 2000 Domain
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>server>migration (more info?)

.. I have the following servers all in the same single
flat domain:

1) Domain Controller - DNS Server - Exchange
Server - Domain Controller/ Windows 2000 Server

2) Great Plains Accounting Server - Domain
Controller / Windows 2000 Server

3) Application Server member server/ Windows 2003
Server

I'm trying to make the 2003 box a Domain Controller - but
it refuses to successfully authenticate to the Domain of
which it is already a member!.

I'm afraid that my upgrade to Win2003 and Exchange 2003 on
the first two servers will have issues during the
upgrade. I tested Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2000 DC in a
beta lab and it required that the server be demoted from a
domain controller before installing.

Thanks for taking any time that you can to consider my
scenario.

Hello,

Thank you for your post!

Can you provide me with the verbatim error message of "it refuses to
successfully authenticate to the Domain of which it is already a member"?
If possible, please post the screen shots and we can perform further
analysis.

Thanks!

Joe -

I tried to send you an e-mail with screen caps, etc. but I
get an error message stating that the address didn't
resolve in DNS.
