Post subject: Groupwise running in an AD environment
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>server>migration (more info?)

I am in the planning stages for a major conversion from NDS to AD. We are
taking a stepped approach to the conversion in that we will be converting to
AD for user authentication and file and print sharing but will not be
converting to Exchange (or another email system) until next year.

Everything I have found on the web talks about connecting groupwise to
exchange. I am hoping to have Groupwise run and authenticate on Active
Directory without the use of the Novell client or Exchange connector
(assuming that i would be using exchange with the connector).

Is this possible?

Am I going to be using a Novell utility like Nsure for password
syncronization?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Hi,

I'm not a groupwise & Exchange specialist. Just found some information for
you:

In order to query active directory you need to have the entire DN in the
query. By default, GroupWise was sending ONLY the userid of the mail box.
So if you had a user named big bob with userid bbobb, groupwise was
querying with bbobb. Active Directory was like what is this and spit back
a decoding error. In reality you need to query AD with the string:
cn=bbobb, ou=users, dc=subdomain1, dc=subdomain2, dc=tld This would be
accurate for bbobb living in OU users, and having a domain of
subdomain1.subdomain2.tld.

Therefore, I think your purpose cannot be achieved.Sad

If I'm off base or you found some information else, please feel free to
post back. It can be a lesson for me.

Best regards,

Vincent Xu

We are looking at something similar, however we plan to retain NDs and use a
product called Identity Manager from Novell to assist

see http://www.novell.com/products/identitymanager/
