Hi,

I've seen one person report that the new revision of the Windows Desktop Search
update was automatically approved on a system where the "Automatically approve
new revisions of updates that are already approved" was disabled. If anyone
else experienced this please let me know - please make sure that you have
doublechecked the setting first; it lives in Options, Automatic Approvals, Advanced.

Also let me know if you've noticed the same behaviour on any other updates.

Harry.

Thanks for pointing out the setting. I have no disabled that setting. In
any case, I am furious (for all the good that it does) that Microsoft
manipulated the situation in order to call the new search a "revision" of an
earlier update. Revision my ass! That's a whole new version and it is going
off all my PCs immediately if I have to reload Windows to do it!

What a lousy way to try to beat the competition. I don't use any other
desktop search so this isn't a preference thing but if Microsoft wants to win
the desktop search wars, do it by providing a quality product rather than
abuse and violation of trust!

On the subject of approvals the Administrator didn't ask for, I run WSUS 2,
and downloaded updates are "Not approved".

If there is an info tag saying "A newer version is available", clicking on
"Move all approvals to newer version" changes the approvals. I suspect it
changes them to the approval settings of the last update I changed approvals
on - even copying deadlines which are now in the past!
