Hello All
Any help offered for the problem below would be greatly appreciated:
We are running an NT4 domain with absolutely nothing for name
resolution, no WINS, no DNS - I am amazed the the network actually
works, but it does. I decided to put in a DNS server to keep us going
til the AD install in 6-9 months. The network is quite slow and the
idea was to cut out some of the (presumably) broadcast traffic. Since
it is an NT4 domain, obviously there is no DNS namespace, so I decided
on domain.local (thats right, our domain is called domain, don't ask
why). I realised that since we are running NT4, none of the computers
have a DNS suffix and subsequently don't know which zone to update, so
I used option 15 in the DNS options to roll out a DNS suffix, but
annoyingly only the PTR records are being updated(I assume by the DHCP
server), but not the A records. If I manually enter a DNS suffix of
domain.local though System Properties and use a static address on my
machine both zones update correctly, any ideas? Obviously I don't want
to have to go round every machine individually if I can aviod it.
Also I have all the default settings for dynamic updates in place,
windows server 2003 dns server and xp/2000 clients throughout.
