Running SBS2003 w/exchange. Our internet provider has decided to make all
users us the authenication method to reduce spam and virus activity. My
question is where in exchange do I put the user name and password to allow
our exchange server to authenicate with our internet providers outgoing mail
server? Any help is appreciated. All service packs are up to date.

In Exchange System Manager, under Connectors -> SmallBusiness SMTP
Connector -> Properties, on the Advanced tab, click Outbound Security.

Make sure you test this thoroughly. My ISP did the same thing, but then
even with the authentication configured correctly, they would not relay mail
from my domain. In other words, even with authentication, they would only
accept mail from @isp.com, not from @mydomain.com. I'm sure they fixed this
at some point, but I just switched to DNS for outbound mail so I never found
out.

My ISP has elected to do the same as well. I read your post, so setting the
SMTP Connector to use DNS resolve the problem with no other configuration?

That will only work if your ISP allows you to send mail out directly on port
25. Otherwise you would select the "smart host" configuration in the CEICW
and supply username and password.
