Here's what I have:
Win2k Pro brand new installation. I manually installed SP4 after installing
OS, then installed IE6 SP1.
Policy has been applied to the client machine (I verified this by looking at
Auto Update settings and registry entry).

This machine does not want to check with WSUS 3.0 server. There is no
communication problem between client and WSUS server. I'm accessing WSUS by
IP address. I search WindowsUpdate.log for WSUS IP address. It's not there.

Why is this (W2k) client machine unable to contact WSUS 3.0?

Answering my own question.

I've tried (several times) forcing automatic update client to start
detecting (wuauclt /detectnow). Nothing happened. Restarted the PC, still
nothing. Weird thing is, windowsupdate.log does not have any new entries.

I left it alone for 30 minutes. W2k machine now detects and downloads 2
updates (Windows Installer 3.1, BITS 2 and WinHTTP 5.1).
